This
account of the Coast to Coast route was written by my father Melvin Daly
during his walk in the summer of 1980 when he was aged 70. Others have
written their own accounts of the walk more recently but at that time the
path was not generally well known and it is interesting to reflect on how
its popularity has increased over the years. It is a very personal and
often humorous account which I am sure you will find 'worth the read' if
Long Distance Walking is of interest to you or even if you aspire to it.
I regret that there are few photos since, unusually for him, he did not
carry a camera presumably to save weight. However I have tried to include
as many links as possible to other sites which include maps and photos of
the route. My father died on 24th October 1998 after a long and fulfilling
life. His wish would be that others should gain as much pleasure and enjoyment
from walking the hills and mountains as he. From the feedback I have received
I know that some have already been inspired by his account. |
