Intro
The Dolomites in Italy are a spectacular range of mountains and if you enjoy
a bit of adventure and are looking for something different then climbing
some Via Ferrata (Klettersteig in German) is a way of reaching those places
you might otherwise never visit. These are climbs protected by a permanent
steel cable that you clip onto for protection in the event that you should
fall. More difficult sections have ladders or stempels to assist the ascent.
What you will need is a reasonable level of fitness and scrambling experience. Many of the via ferrata
lead you to very exposed ledges with steep drops so if you don't have a head
for heights then keep well away. Most are above 2500m so you will notice
the lack of oxygen which will affect how far you are able to walk/climb in
a day. Click on th elinks on the left for accounts and photos of our experiences.
