DAY 5 - Aysgarth to Askrigg
Thursday 29th
March 2007
5.07miles

We didn't rush this morning as we had only about another
5miles of fairly level walking to complete. The breakfast was excellent and it
turned out that once again we were the only guests. This had been the case at
all of the B&B's except for the hotel in Thwaite. The other reason for not
rushing was that it was raining! We said our goodbyes and donned our boots and
rain clothes on hte bench outside. By 10:00am we were on our way. The rain was
not too heavy. In the village of Aysgarth we carried straight on along the
street missing the footpath that went off to the right between some houses. We
retraced our steps and this took us across fields and down to the river. A
slippery wooded area followed, out onto the main road for a short stretch and
then across a foot bridge to the north bank. In some places it was agin quite
slippery on the wet bank of the river but we were soon out onto open fields
followed by easy walking along the route of a long gone railway. By the time we
were approaching Askrigg the rain had stopped. the last fiew stiles and
then to our delight the car still safely parked. It was 12:40pm
