DAY 13 - Tremeirchion to Prestatyn
Tuesday 30th August 1983
miles/ hours mins

Woke to a fine dry morning with only four or five miles to go. Sang at each of the first three miles three more miles to go etc and ending with "Offa's Dyke for me" but I cannot recollect the time. But the 4th mile was frustrating, in that, although Prestatyn lay invitingly just below, the path turned almost backwards and skirted the hills for some way before at last descending to the suburbs. I paused for a final rest up on the hill by a gate and washed my teeth in a mug of water. A brown and white spaniel appeared and stood and barked continuously. I did not realise that he wanted to go through the gate I was leaning against until I rose to depart and he gave me a most injured, indignant look as he went through. Suburbia at last, heralded by a short asphalt path where all the suburbanites obviously took their doggies for poo-poos. A last town mile to the station, with a whirlwind of cars to negotiate. A poor little station with no telephones, no refreshment and a long queue for tickets. The time - 9:15. Bought a ticket to Crewe - about £2-50 and then telephoned Audley and caught the 10:06 to Chester. A crowded train but I claimed a seat next to a man with a suitcase on the seat. Chester 10:42; 11:16 from Chester - a very pleasant if jolty train, arriving at 10:44 , where Marjorie, in a lovely new dress, met me on the platform. Back to Audley and a host of luxuries! Including a divine shave and bath.
